Billet Wins Late Model Feature while Ehrhart
Wins Track Championship at SSP on Saturday Newberrytown, PA (September 18, 2011) – On Saturday night, September 17 at the Susquehanna Speedway Park, Carlisle’s Carl Billet won the 25-lap Late Model feature with a last lap pass to claim his third of the year at the track. Dover’s Justin Ehrhart claimed his first Late Model track championship with his top ten finish. In Street Stock racing action, Hanover’s Dan Zechman won his ninth feature win of the 2011 season capping off a successful year clinching the Street Stock track championship as well. New Cumberland’s Cameron Benyou also won the Xtreme Stock Car feature event and track championship for the Xtreme Stocks on Saturday night. York Haven’s Daryl Sipe secured his Road Warrior track championship run with his sixth feature win of the season. Bill Brown Sr. of Woodbridge, Maryland won his third Class Car feature of 2011 by leading all twenty laps from start to finish. The 25-lap Late Model feature event had Bob Minnich jumping out to the early lead to set the pace for the event. Meanwhile, Billy Wampler challenged Minnich for the top spot until lap 20 when Carl Billet moved into the runner-up spot on the multi-grooved track. Minnich received heavy pressure from both Billet and Wampler until Wampler retired from the race with a blown engine on lap 23. A “green-white-checkered” showdown between Minnich and Billet was set up by the late race caution. On the restart, Minnich held on to the top spot until the pair entered turn one of the final lap. Billet scooted by Minnich on the low side and held on for his third win of the year. Pancho Carter also made it by Minnich on the final circuit to claim second after starting 13th in the feature. Minnich held on for a podium third place finish. Randy Christine Jr. finished solidly in fourth, followed by Gary Potts in fifth. Justin Ehrhart, Christine Jr. and Minnich were heat race winners. In the 20-lap Street Stock feature Dan Zechman led from start to finish for his ninth feature victory of the season. Marshall McMullen came from a fourth place starting spot to finish second. Nick Bloom finished a season-best third place with veteran driver Scott Thunberg in fourth. Steve Ramsey rounded out the top five. McMulllen and Dan Zechman were heat race victors. Cameron Benyou took the lead on the second lap of the 20 lap Xtreme Stock Car feature with J.R. Rodriguez and Patrick McClane hot on his tail waiting for Benyou to make a mistake. That mistake never came as Benyou captured his second feature win of the season and claiming the track championship. Rodriguez finished close behind in second just ahead of Patrick McClane. Rich Lomman finished ahead of Tim Hahn to claim the fourth place finish as Hahn settled for fifth. Rodriguez and McClane won their respective heat races. The 15-lap Road Warrior feature had Daryl Sipe leading from start to end to claim yet another victory in the entry level class in a 15-lap track record time of 6 minutes and 3.42 seconds. Brian Lefebvre finished in the runner-up spot, with Curt McDade in third. Robert Pyle and Jeff Svendsen rounded out the top five in fourth and fifth places respectively. Sipe and Lefebvre won the heat races earlier in the evening. Bill Brown Sr. took the 20-lap Classic Car feature win over Pete McNeal and Matt Wallace by leading all 20 laps. Kurt Walsh and Steve Cantwell rounded out the top five in the non-stop event that took 7 minutes and 39.66 seconds to complete. Browns and Matt Wallace claimed the heat races. Racing action then returns to the Big Track at SSP on Friday and Saturday nights, September 23 and 24 with the 6th Annual Susquehanna Showdown. Racing action on Friday night will feature the qualifying races for the Late Models and heats and feature for the Four Cylinder Stock Cars. Saturday will be highlighted by the 50 lap Late Model championship race along with last chance races for the class as well as two features of the Super Sportsman and the Road Warrior World Championship. The start time on Friday is 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Saturday night. The Susquehanna Speedway Park is located off I-83 to exit 32, then 1.4 miles NW on SR382 to York Road, then 1.3 miles south.
