Jared Kane's photos from night 2 of the "Oil Region Classic" World of Outlaws racing at Tri-City Speedway.
Josh Richards (1) takes the lead from his pole position over second place starting Alex Ferree (4).
Steve Francis (15) and Rick Eckert (24) had a great side by side battle early in their heat race.
Josh Richards (1) and David Scott (3) had the best side by side race of the night. "Kid Rocket" was running the low line while "Slow Ride" was whipping around the outside. Scott would power out of the turns on the high side and eventually take the checkers in heat #1.
Here's one more side by side picture of Richards (1) and Scott (3).
Steve Francis (15) would dive under Josh Richards (1) on the final turn of the last lap and secure the final redraw position.
Chub Frank (1*) and Jared Miley (H1) battle in heat race #2. Chub would finish 3rd just missing out on the redraw. Miley would finish the race in the 5th spot.
Robbie Blair (won11) and Dave Hess Jr (44H) had a brief battle in their heat race. Blair would finish 2nd, Hess 4th in heat race #2.
Shane Clanton (25) would overtake Robbie Blair (won11) for the heat #2 win. Clanton known throughout the country for his rim riding driving style, spent much of the weekend on the bottom side of the track.
Jeff Hoffman (32), Max Blair (won11M), and Chris Hackett (33) go three-wide through turns 3 and 4. Hoffman had an impressive qualifying run with the 3rd quickest time, unfortunately he did not make the feature.
Mike Johnson (2J) pulls off the inside pass on Gregg Satterlee (22). Johnson would finish second in heat #3 allowing him to redraw for his feature starting position. Satterlee would have the best finish though, scoring a 9th place finish in the A-main feature.
Clint Smith (44) would have no trouble winning the 3rd and final heat. He had an easy time winning his heat with no other WoO LMS regulars to contend with.
These two veterans Dick Barton (28B) and Dutch Davies (40), put on a crowd pleasing door to door battle for much of the B-main. Davies would prevail, winning the B-main with Barton finishing in his shadows. Both would transfer to the A-main feature.
Darrell Bossard (22B) and Max Blair (won11M), are only 23 and 17 years of age but have little trouble racing hard. Both were in positions to transfer to the A-main at one point in the race. Boom Briggs made a last lap three wide pass on the high side to take the 4th and final transfer spot from Bossard.
Jeremy Miller (24) and Boom Briggs (99B) both made the feature but would both experience mechanical failures. For the second night in a row Miller would fail to finish the A-main. On night #1 he wouldn't even complete a lap, with night #2 completing just 16 laps. Briggs would last just 14 laps on night #2.
Drivers give the crowd the traditional 4-wide salute.
The start of the 50 lap feature had cars spread out high and low looking to pick up positions. This was just the beginning of Dan Stone's (21D) remarkable run through the field.
Shane Clanton (25) goes after Clint Smith (44) for the lead early. Smith would hold on to lead laps 1-7.
Steve Francis (15) pulls to the inside of Shane Clanton (25) and completes the pass for second place on his way to the lead.
Chub Frank had a good weekend with finishes of 2nd and 7th. Unfortunately he still lost ground in the WoO points race.
Rick Isadore (9I) and Dutch Davies (40) battle early on for position.
Dan Stone (21D) continues his march towards the front with this low side pass of Robbie Blair (won11). Blair struggled in the Sunday night feature, starting 6th and falling backwards throughout to finish 11th.
Rick Eckert (24) and Chub Frank (1*) race for postion. Eckert had an outstanding Sunday night and finished in the 5th position.
Dan Stone (21D) passes Josh "Kid Rocket" Richards (1) for the second position and sets sail after Steve Francis.
Steve Francis (15) passes the last car that he will see as leader, Chris Hackett (33). Francis is passed by Stone and has to settle for 2nd place. Francis has an unbelievable weekend. He finishes 1st and 2nd during the two night show, and increases his points lead to further help secure his first ever WoO LMS points title.
Dan Stone (21D) in the lead in the top picture, drives a smooth and flawless race for his first ever WoO LMS A-main victory. In the bottom picture Stone passes his last car of the night, lapping Jared Miley (H1).
Dan Stone climbs from his #21D 2007 Lazer III chassis to a shower of confetti. His first ever WoO LMS victory is celebrated by all in attendance.
Dan Stone celebrates in victory lane.
Dan Stone shakes hands in his emotional interview. There could not have been a better end to this great 2-day show put on by the WoO's and Tri-City Speedway. Congratulations to Dan Stone, family, and crew. Good luck in the future!
