SMITHLEY, BOYER AND SIGAFOES NEW WINNERS AT DOG HOLLOW

May 14, 2004

STRONGSTOWN, PA - It was Imlers Poultry Trophy night at Dog Hollow Speedway Friday as three new drivers found their way to victory lane for the first time this season.

It was a first career win at DHS for Randy Smithley of Bolivar in the Townsend Gas and Oil Steel Block Late Models. Jim Boyer of Indiana picked up his first Stewart Bus Lines Street Stock feature while Bill Sigafoes of Blairsville won his first Brush Valley Tire Pure Stock feature of the season.

Repeat wins went to Sam Stile of Charleroi earned his second straight Agway Energy Super Late Model feature as did Denny Weisgarber of Clearfield in the Texas Auto Ranch Four Cylinder Sidewinders.

The stat of the super late model feature saw a four wide battle off the second turn for the lead, with Jerry Redden coming out with the lead. Cody Schultz was second but John Britsky was working on Schultz for second. Britsky took second on lap three and set his sights on the leader, but Redden was holding his own, until lap seven when Britsky made the inside work and he assumed the lead.

His time at the front was in jeopardy as Sammy Stile was coming from the 12th starting spot and had his sights set on the leader. Stile used his typical outside line and began to work on Britsky and gnaw away at his lead, and on lap 11 he took control of the race and left the rest of the field fight for second. That became a four car fight with Dave Peterman topping the competition. At the line it was Stile, ahead of Peterman, Dave Satterlee, Britsky and Redden. Heat wins went to Steve Everhart, Satterlee and Mike Blose.

Eight cautions slow the steel block late model feature, with Randy Smithley setting the pace the entire distance, but his win was anything but easy. First it was Keith Witherite who tried to take the top position then it was Darrell Dick who tried. Ted Gallaher came from fifth to run second for several laps, trying to gain the upper hand, then it was Dave Day who tried every trick in the book to gain the top spot, but at the checkered flag it was Smithley who topped the field for his first ever Dog Hollow victory. Day came home second, with Andy Teno, Alex Nicoletti andClate Copeman completing the top five. The heat wins went to Nicoletti and Gary Stahl.

The street stock feature was exciting from the start, as John Wayne Weaver went three wide off the second turn and took the lead from his third place starting position. He set the pace for four laps, before Dustin Burnisky took the lead. He set the pace for one lap before Weaver reassumed the lead. A caution flew on lap 12 and regrouped the field, with three laps to go.

When the green flew it was Mike Laughard who took the lead, but Weaver battled back and took the lead on lap 14, but when the checkered flag dropped it was Jim Boyer who cam out on top with his first win of the season. Laughard was second, Weaver was third, Burnisky was fourth and Randy Campbell was fifth. Preliminary wins went to Chuck Cook, Matt Hugill and Campbell.

It was a green to checkered win for Bill Sigafoes in the pure stocks, as, like Weaver in the street stocks, he went into the lead at the start from his third place starting spot. Bryan Imler was on Sigafoes bumper the entire 15 lap distance, but it was Wild Bills night, as he held on to take the win. Imler was second, Marshall Detwiler was third, Tim Snare Jr. was fourth and Ed Keilman was fifth. Qualifying wins went to Detwiler, John Mazey and Keilman.

The four cylinder sidewinders saw Jason Peters take the lead, again from his third place starting spot, and lead the first lap. Don Rodgers was leading by the time the field completed lap three, and he had pressure from Paul Crynock III. He set the pace and held off the efforts of Denny Weisgarber until lap nine, when Weisgarber went to the inside and took the lead. Once out fron the never looked back, taking his second win in a row. Rodgers was second, Crynock was third, Peters was fourth and Andy Satterlee was fifth. Heat wins went to Weisgarber and Crynock.
