Notes
from BRP CanAm 2004 #1 at Little Valley
Speedway
- 45
Super Stock teams came to race; not a BRP CanAm Super Stock Series record,
but very robust.
- Making
the 26 car starting grid was difficult. Included in the 19 DNQs were former
track champions, former race winners, and first time BRP CanAm Super Stock
entries.
- Matt
Emerling towed from
Delaware
, OH to earn the Long Haul Award. He
had planned to race at Freedom on Friday, but that race was rained out and
was among the DNQs at Little Valley.
- Jason
Schoomaker made his first BRP CanAm start in the Burger Enterprises Monte
Carlo #65 that John Kemp drove last year.
Schoomaker was doing double duty by also racing his #129 in the RRS
Street Stock portion of the LVS program.
- Bo
Clark was another BRP CanAm first timer doing double duty.
Clark
also raced in the RRS Sportsman event.
- Jim
Johnson, the defending Genesee Speedway champion, debuted his brand new
Mustang bodied Rocket. It was a
forgettable debut. An engine problem in hot laps prevented Johnson from
running his heat. Repairs were
made in time for his B-Main. Starting last in the B Johnson was on his way
to the front when again engine problems beset the beautiful Upstate
Utilities – Mike Ognibene Ford – Finger Lakes Mortgage entry.
- Second
[or is it third] generation driver Tom Schnars made his first ever BRP CanAm
start in a #M1. A number made
famous by his father at McKean [when it was Smethport] Raceway, Stateline
Speedway, and the old Sugar Grove, PA Skyline Speedway.
Tom’s M1 was a Chevy Monte Carlo not an Oldsmobile 88 coupe.
- Paul
Grigsby had drive train problem starting in hot laps and despite an all
evening effort was not able to correct the problems.
He will be ready for BRP CanAm 2004 #2 at Freedom Raceway on June 18.
- Tim
Dunham had a great run going early in the main but, a flat tire during a
caution period sent Dunham scurrying to the pits for a fresh American Racer
tire. Tim worked his way back
to 16th at the checkered flag.
- The
Scio Speed Society was very well represented with Bo Clark, Tim Dunham, Tim
Schram, Jeremy Wonderling, Mike Wonderling, Jr., and AJ Young all entered in
BRP CanAm 2004 #1. Although Jay
Deming still officially resides in
Andover
his mother claims he spends most of his time in Scio.
It must be those Scio Speed Society meetings!
- A
repeat of Miller family
1-2-3
finish of BRP CanAm 2003 #1 was not possible for BRP CanAm 2004 #1 because
Dave’s [the father] car was damaged at McKean County Raceway on Saturday
night. Bruce reports that his dad is not up to over night race car repairs
until he retires from Dresser. Bruce may have had a chance at a podium
finish had he not suffered a flat tire at about the half way point.
A new Hoosier tire and Bruce were able to record a 19th
place finish in the Series opener.
- Andy
Miller’s win was his first in the BRP CanAm Super Stock Series.
Andy’s brother Bruce won the Little Valley opener in 2003 and his
father Dave won BRP CanAm 2003 #4 at Gasport Speedway.
- The
2004 BRP CanAm Super Stock Series event scheduled at Gasport Speedway may
not take place since the Speedway is currently closed waiting for new
ownership.
- Hard
Charger Award winner was Bill Holmes who advanced from 22nd to 4th.
Others with good forward progress were Don Wagner [16th to 9th],
TJ Shaw [17th to 10th], Wayne Adamczak [18th
to 11th], Jack B. Quick Harrington [25th to 12th],
and the senior member of the BRP CanAm Series, 68 year old, Ron Baker [24th
to 13th].
- Jim
Mazur and Jr. Peters must have had magnets attached to their cars.
- Dean
Inglis is the new hired gun in the Darwin Snyder #12
Monte Carlo
.
- So
many good notes to share and too little time…………………….Gary
The
next event for the BRP CanAm Super Stock Series is Friday June 18 at Freedom
Raceway.
