Moran Collects IRS "Rapid Refund" Speedweek Finale, Eyler and Jasinski Score First Sharon Victories of 2008

Hartford, OH May 31, 2008 "The Million Dollar Man" Donnie Moran of Dresden, OH captured the Independent Racing Series (IRS) "Rapid Refund" Speedweek Finale on Saturday, May 31st at the Sharon Speedway, to bring home a well deserved $5,000 payday.

Titusville, PA driver Robbie Blair and Bruceton Mills, WV driver Doug Horton led the 26 car field to the green flag with Horton leading the first fifteen laps. Blair took over the top spot on lap 16 with "Kid Rocket" Josh Richards pulling in front on lap 19.

Richards and Blair continued their side by side battle over the next five laps. On lap 23 Richards went to the high groove in an attempt to get by the slower car of Russell King. Richards got sideways and both he and Robbie Blair, who was running in the second spot, spun in turn two to bring out the caution, The ensuing restart found Horton back at the helm.

When green flag racing resumed Horton and Moran battled side by side from lap 23 until Moran finally got by Horton on lap 45. Moran then led the five remaining laps to collect his first IRS main event of 2008. Horton came home in the second sport with Duane Chamberlain of Richmond, IN finishing in third. Northern Tier drivers, Mike Knight and Dave Hess Jr. completed the top five.

Moran set the quick time of the evening with a 15,695 lap. Rick Aukland, Richards, Jared Hawkins and Mike Knight were victorious in the IRS Late Model heat events for the 26 car field. World of Outlaws Late Model driver Chub Frank won the B-Main with Titusville, PA driver Robbie Blair winning the Dash.

Sharon Speedway veterans Bill Hanna and Tony Bruno led the 28 car field of Tight Seal Glass Block Pure Stocks to the green flag. The initial start was called back two (the first time for the slowed car of Alan Dellinger and the second time for a turn two accident involving Tim Burns, Mike Aley, Dave Brown and Jamie Duncan). When green flag racing finally got underway it was Hanna who took the lead.

Hanna stayed in front as "Chargin Charlie" Jasinski of Poland, OH was quietly working his way up from the 12th starting position. Jasinski charged into the lead on lap four but a caution on lap eight for Matt Woomer gave Hanna another crack at the lead. Hanna was successful in his bid to regain the top spot on lap nine.

Two more cautions in the closing stages of the event gave Jasinski the opportunity to redeem himself and on lap 13 he did just that when the field was closed up following a caution for Allan Hudzik. Jasinski motored by Hanna when the green flag was displayed and went on to capture his first checkered flag of 2008. Hanna claimed the runnerup spot with Ed Cornell, Rod Laskey and Dellinger rounding out the top five.

Dellinger, Bruce Redman and Jasinski took the heat race wins earlier in the evening.

The Warren Harley-Davidson 410 Sprint Division feature event closed out the evening and it was another chapter of "Late Race Drama" that enabled Franklin, PA driver Rob Eyler to visit the Hovis Auto and Truck Supply Victory Lane for the first time in 2008. An "Invert 10" redraw found newcomers Cale Conley and Rod George leading the 23 car field for the 25 lap feature event. George shot into the lead and had just completed the first lap when the red flag flew following the violent flip of Gary Edwards in turn four. Edwards was a bit shaken but uninjured in the incident.

The feature was slowed three more times but with each green flag that followed George pulled away from the field and appeared to be headed for victory. On lap 22 the Dr. John Crawford III sponsored #4 sprinter began to slow and a broken fuel line found George coasting to a stop just one lap later. Rob Eyler of Franklin, PA inherited the lead and led the final two circuits to capture a very popular win.

Teenager Cole Duncan ran an outstanding race as held off defending divisional champ Bob Felmlee to claim the runnerup spot. It was also Duncan's best career finish. Jack Sodeman Jr. and Dan Shetler completed the top five.

Scott Bonnell, Sodeman Jr. and Shetler captured the Warren Harley-Davidson Sprint Division preliminaries. Australian visitor Roddy Bellbowen was uninjured after flipping the Barry Ruble owned #63 in the first Sprint Division heat race.
