E-Mod special, Fireworks on tap for next Friday at Raceway 7
Conneaut, OH (June 26, 2010): Fireworks will light up the sky over northeast Ohio’s Raceway 7 next Friday, July 2. The night is sponsored by Lakeview Ford. Also on the schedule is a special for the Zimmer Service Center E-Mod class that will pay a cool thousand dollars to the winner. The Zimmer Service Center E-Mods have been one of the track’s most competitive divisions this season with only one repeat winner, Rich Michael Jr. Also scoring wins have been Alan Dellinger, Gary Eicher, Joel Watson, and this past Friday it was Chuck Steinle Jr picking up his first-ever E-Mod win. With the parity this season in the division it is anybody’s race to win. And with the $1000 first place purse on the line, drivers will be scrambling for the win more than usual. Without a win, Russ Dunn sits at the top of the point standing with a 75-point edge over Joel Watson, who in turn has a ten-point lead over Rich Gardner, also winless. Titusville, PA’s Max Blair has completely dominated this years racing in the Schwartz Construction FASTRAK Late Model, winning every feature contested thus far in the season. With fields averaging over 22 cars a week, Blair’s feat is all the more amazing considering the built-in equality of the cars. Blair’s secret seems to be the smoothness with which he handles the car through the turns, maintaining speed and having the momentum to get down the straights faster than his competitors. Can anyone develop the necessary smoothness to get by the young speedster? Among the favorites to displace the 20-year old driver at the top of the heap include his father, Robbie, a four-time Super Late Model Champion at the track. Robbie has run second to his son on four occasions this season. Also in the running to unseat Blair is last year’s points champion, Dennis Lunger. Lunger has had more hard luck this season than perhaps any other driver at the track, yet has run at the front before trouble hit. The reigning champion had three feature wins on his way to the Championship in ’09, those coming in July, as have most of Lunger’s wins in this class. Eleven of Lunger’s twelve wins in FASTRAK have come in July. It is now July, time for Lunger to end his hard luck run. With Blair’s dominance, he enjoys a whopping 166=point lead over Dwayne Pond. Pond has a ten-point edge over Robbie Blair. The Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stock class has also been very competitive, with five different winners over the first six events. Opening night winner Ed Bolyard is the only multiple winner so far, with his second win coming in the Street Stock special June 18, paying $600. Ken Zimmer, last year’s champion Mike Gonzales, Don Kramer, and Shawn Fawcett have also scored wins this season. 23-points separate leader Ken Zimmer over Bolyard. Joe Rohrer, winless this season, trails Bolyard by 36-points. The Evergreen Lake Park Campground Mini Stocks have been dominated by Jonny Boyd. Boyd has won half of the six features run this season. Despite his feature race dominance, Boyd has only a slim points lead over Bud Sergeff, last week’s winner, due to dismal luck in heat races, failing to finish some while Sergeff has been strong in heat runs as well as running consistently near the front in features. Also scoring wins this season have been Joe Plesniak on opening night, and Kyle Jackson. The season-long points race is the tightest in the Mini-Stocks with Boyd having a slim 11-point advantage over Sergeff. Jason Easler rides a distant third, 108-points out of the runner-up spot. Gates open every Friday now at 5:30 PM with pill draw cut off at 7 PM and racing at 7:30 PM. VIP suites are available for rental for $250 a night which included 8 general admissions passes. Adult general admission is $10 and pit passes are $25. For more information please visit www.raceway7.com or call the track on race day after 12 noon at 440-594-2222.
