Scott Baker wins Main Event Outlaw Late Model 100

(North East, PA- June 27, 2009)          The stands were packed for Saturday night’s races, which included all divisions plus the Main Event Outlaw Late Model 100 presented by Carter Lumber.

            The first feature race of the night was the Boyer RV Center Bandoleros. Twelve Bandoleros followed the pace car, but in Lap 1 #26 Anthony Riforgiato spun out and then left the track. #21 Alexis Wilson started in front of the pack, followed by #69 Brody Wood and #1 Brandon DeBrakeleer. During Lap 5 both Wilson and Wood spun out and lost their lead positions. Wood then left the race and came back during Lap 6. #9 Carl Vilardo IV and #33 Melissa Brockman got tangled up during Lap 7 and both left the race. #81 Michael Walker raced into first position in Lap 8, with #39 Blake Clabbatz close on his heels. Walker was able to hold off Clabbatz for the rest of the race to take the lead, with Clabbatz taking 2nd place, #97 Darrin Waldron in 3rd place, and #1 Brandon DeBrakeleer and #21 Alexis Wilson in 4th and 5th places.

            The next race of the night featured the Jensens Target Collision Compacts. The fifteen-lap race began with #34b Brandon Huffman in first position and #7 Angela McAvoy in second position. #17m Rich Miller battled with McAvoy for second position going into Lap 10. In Lap 12, McAvoy took the lead with Miller close behind her car. McAvoy held onto the lead, then Miller, while Huffman followed in 3rd place, #77 Julie McAvoy in 4th place, and #21 Mike Neubauer in 5th place.

            The next race was the Main Event Outlaw Late Model 100, a special feature race with twenty-three cars racing 100 laps, all of whom are from Ohio. #41 Michael Scheffer, of Akron, OH, began the race in first position, and #6 Glenn Gault Jr., of Hubbard, OH, began the race in second position. Gault Jr. moved into the first position and #00 Todd Ripley into second position during Lap 2. The first caution flag was thrown during Lap 21 when #58 Burgess White spun out and left the race. #89 Brett Jursik moved into the second position during Lap 24, pushing Ripley into third position. Ripley dropped back several positions during Lap 46, and #28 Jimmy Carter moved into third position, followed by #4 Scott Baker in fourth position and #59 Gary Whipkey in fifth position. A second caution flag was thrown during Lap 52 when Jursik ran into the wall and lost a front tire. Carter moved into first position during Lap 55 and Baker moved into second. Another caution flag was thrown during Lap 66 when #63 Rick Sibila’s car began to spit out heavy white smoke and was towed off the track. Baker moved into first position during Lap 66 and #12 Don Harvey Jr. moved into second position. Baker held onto the first position for the remainder of the race, followed by Harvey Jr., Whipkey, #3 Doug Sommers, and #1 Shawn Stroble.

            Following the feature race, the Street Stocks entered the track to race twenty-five laps. #1 Jeff Campbell took an early lead, followed by #83 Russ Conti and #21 Dave Wilson in third position. #20 John Denny moved into third position and Wilson into second position after Campbell removed himself from the race during Lap 13. Conti held onto first position for the remainder of the race, followed by Wilson in 2nd place, #11 Ed Hall in 3rd place, #01 Leslie Bohrer in 4th and #99 Dennis Kszos in 5th place.

            The Career Concepts Legends raced next for twenty-five laps. The first caution flag was thrown during Lap 2 when #26 Cody Myers spun out and was towed from the track. #3 Zac Carter took the lead in Lap 8 but was quickly passed by #8 Justin Hines. #25 Steve Sunday moved into second position during Lap 13, with Carter close behind him, as well as #21 Patrick Lyden and #61 Jake Francis. Hines held off all competitors and finished the race in 1st place.  Sunday finished in 2nd, with Carter in 3rd place, Lyden in 4th, and Francis rounding out the top 5.

            The next race of the night was the Dodge Modifieds. #77 Dave McAvoy spun out during Lap 4, causing the first caution flag to be thrown. #13 Nate Carlson took an early lead into first position, with #17jr. James- Paul Weisser battling for his position. #1 Terry Akerly raced into third position during Lap 13 when the three leaders broke away from the pack. With only a few laps remaining, Akerly took the lead and never looked back. Weisser finished in 2nd place, followed by Carlson, #22 Ken Moore and #30 Chris Briggs.

            The last race of the night was the featured Plyler Overhead Door Late Models. This forty-lap race showcased twenty-two cars. #3 Jeff Brown got out to a lengthy lead in Lap 5, in front of #19 Chris Bohlman in second position and #65 George Skora III in third position. A caution flag was thrown in Lap16 when #07 Tom Fayes Jr. spun out. Skora III took the lead in Lap 20, while #23 Jimmy Weller moved into second position, passing Brown. #9 Will Thomas passed Brown during Lap 31 and passed Weller at the finish line for a 2nd place finish trailing Skora III. Weller took 3rd place, Brown took 4th, and #69 Josh John took 5th place.
