Click here to return to Raceway's home page! Mckean County Raceway secured a World of Outlaws Late Model Series event on July 27, 2011 and Raceway Magazine was there for the historic happening that drew the largest crowd in MCR history. It was an overflow crowd and the were not disappointed as the racing was as hot as the weather. Below are photos made by your editor, Jay Pees.
Robbie Blair, the "Titusville Terror", set fast time at 14.666. Blair struggled in his heat, finishing fourth, then got as high as fifth in the feature before sliding back to an eventual tenth place finish, the highest finishing non-Outlaws car.
Formerly known as "Kid Rocket" Josh Richards now prefers "Rocket Man". Richards set second fast time, a mere .008 seconds off Blair's time, then won his heat, started fourth in the feature and took over at the front on lap 27 of 40 for the win. Richards is currently 2nd in Outlaw points, seeking his third straight championship.
Seaford, DE's Austin Hubbard timed in third fastest was third in his heat, then ran fifth in the feature.
Point's leader Rick Eckert was fourth fastest, drew the pole position for the second night in a row, then ran second in the feature.
Bump Hedman, who has truned upside down in the fourth turn twice in the past three years, succeeded in keeping his mount properly oriented but the the first to drop out of the feature after finishing second in his heat behind eventual feature winner Josh Richards.
Boom Briggs, a past Fall Classic winner, turned in the sixth fastest time, ran second in his heat, then finished 6th in the feature.
Kentucky's Darrell Lanigan, who had collected first place money the night before at Dog Hollow Speedway, timed in seventh fastest, was second in the first heat, then finished ninth in the feature.
Local favorite Jason DuPont, was eighth quick on the clock, third in his heat, and twelfth in the feature.
Former DIRT Modified standout Vic Coffey timed in ninth fastest, won his heat, then drove to third in the feature.
Tenth quick was Modified ace Tim Fuller. Fuller finished fourth in the feature after a third in his heat.
World of Outlaws Late Models race past the overflow crowd at McKean County Raceway for the first time in history.
Chad Valone, (2v) who won earlier this season with the closest margin in MCR history, timed in at 14th fastest, made the big show and finished 23rd, having only completed 17 laps. Here Valone races with Locust Grove, GA's Shane Clanton. Clanton finished 17th in the main event.
Two drivers who have had a lot of success at McKean County Raceway over the years, "King" Richard Barton (14B) and Robbie Blair (Won11). Blair was tenth at the end of the night while Barton experienced problems and was 13th.
2006 World of Outlaws Champion Tim, "T-Mac", McCreadie timed 20th of the 28 cars in attendance then experienced problems in his heat and barely made the feature event. In the feature he drove from 17th on the starting grid to seventh.
Ron Davies, the "Rim Rider" was the slowest qualifier but ran well enough in his heat to make the feature, then drove from 16th on the grid to 14th at the checkers.
Racing during the feature saw lots of three-wide action. Here Robbie Blair hugs the bottom while Tim Fuller is on the rim, with Jason DuPont the meat of the sandwich.
Gregg Satterlee leads Shane Clanton and Tim McCreadie, who are arguing over who gets the prime bottom real estate.
McCready gets by Clanton but the latter bounces up into the infield, collecting Dereck Frank in 16 as Denny Fenton gets by.
Gregg Satterlee experienced problems during the evening, here checks his mount in the infield. Satterlee timed in eleventh fastest and finished fourth in his heat. After starting eleventh in the feature he fell to 21st at the finish, completing only 25 of the scheduled 40 laps.
Chub Frank, local favorite, had a rough night, timeing at 24th fastest of the 28 cars in the field. Chub drove to a sixth in his heat to make the starting lineup for the feature, started that 18th, then advanced to 15th at the end of the night, the last car on the lead lap.
Chub Frank and Boom Briggs race through turn three.
Time for a bit of editorial opinion! This is what this writer/photographer feels a "stock car" should look like! Dan Gibbo has built one of the best looking street stocks ever. All race cars that carry the title "Stock" cars should look like what is parked in the driveway. McKean County Raceway probably has the most "stock" looking cars of any local track in their Street Stock class. Thanks Dan and McKean County Raceway!!!
A rough way to end the night for these street stocks during their feature.
Here's another great looking Street Stock...and this one is real fast too!
Chris Austin is often near the front of the field and on this night he piloted the 22A into Victory Lane.
Vic Vena races Mike Eschrich in the companion UEMS E-Mod feature.
Rookie Bud Watson (2) loses the handle and spins into the infield in front of Dan Davies (71D) and Ben Asel (0).
Dan Davies (71D) loops his mount as Justin Carlson goes by on the high side.
Joel Watson made the tow all the way from Conneaut, OH and it paid off with a win in the UEMS E-Mod feature.
