Joel Watson Wins Lakeview Ford E-Mod Special!  Fawcett gets second win in a row.  Boyd gets fourth win and Blair sets record with seventh consecutive win!!!

Conneaut, OH (July 2, 2010): Raceway 7 presented an E-Mod Special Friday night with Joel Watson taking home the winner’s portion of the purse, a cool $1000.  Other winners included Shawn Fawcett, picking up his second consecutive win, Jonny Boyd, his fourth of the season, and Max Blair, extending his incredible win streak to seven in a row.

The Zimmer Service Center E-Mods were running for $1000 to win with Randy Hall and defending champion Percy McDonald on the front row.  Hall led the pack to turn one with Rich Michael coming to second by the back straight of lap one.  On lap three Hall and Michael went down the back chute side by side and maintained that for the next lap with Hall gaining the edge again at lap four.  Michael was able to get alongside several times over the next laps until spinning in turn one at the start of lap eight.  After green, Hall again assumed the point with Percy McDonald and Joel Watson fighting for second with Watson gaining the spot at halfway.  Watson came by for the lead at lap 11 with Hall slipping back to second.  With five to go, Watson had a ten car-length lead over Hall with Percy McDonald third, Rich Gardner fourth and Brent Rhebergen fifth.  Watson had smooth sailing the rest of the distance to pickup his second win of the season.  Watson was driving the car normaly driven by Gerry Kielar.

Jamie Brown sat on the pole for the start of the Schwartz Construction FASTRAK Late Model feature with Mike Mitchell alongside.  Pandemonium broke loose at the start as four cars piled up right at the green including Bob Dorman, Les Lyon, Jim Long, and Brent Rhebergen.  Mitchell led with Blair moving to second and challenging for the lead with ’09 champion Dennis Lunger third.  More cautions slowed the pace but by lap six Blair managed to get by for the lead, out-braking Mitchell heading into turn three.  Blair’s luck went bad at that time as Dwayne Pond spun in turn two, negating the pass.  Mitchell continued to lead with Blair hounding him every lap and John Lacki second until the halfway point when the leader succumbed to mechanical woes.  Blair then opened up a bigger lead every lap over Lacki with Billy Henry running third, Dennis Lunger fourth and Shane Bambarger fifth.  After a final caution for Bud Watson’s encounter with the front-straight wall, Blair finished off the win with Henry getting by Lacki on the final lap.  John Haggerty wound up fourth with Lunger fifth.  It was a record-setting seventh victory in a row for the young Titusville driver.  In tech it was discovered that Haggerty was light at the scales and disqualified, moving Lunger to fourth and Shane Bambarger to fifth.

Fourteen Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stocks took the green flag for 15 laps of racing in their feature.  Shawn Fawcett, looking for two wins in a row, came from the second row to lead the first lap but caution flew on lap two for a spin by pole-sitter Russ Byler.  After green was again shown, Fawcett again led with Dan Lewis coming to second on lap three.  Coming out of turn four Chris Seaman slammed the wall hard, bringing out the red flag.  Lewis was able to run with Fawcett after green but had major engine problems at lap five.  With Lewis gone, Bolyard was second until Zach Downes came by at lat seven.  At halfway, points leader Ken Zimmer was third.  With nine laps in Art Edwards spun in turn one, erasing Fawcett’s substantial lead with the yellow flag.  Immediately after green, Edwards again spun.  For the remainder of the race Fawcett had a clear track and romped to his second consecutive win with Denny Crawford taking second over a fast-improving Zach Downes.  Two-time winner Ed Bolyard was fourth with Ken Zimmer fifth.

Doug Smith and Bud Sergeff brought the 12 Evergreen Lake Park Campground Mini Stocks to the green flag but the start was waved off when Ron Armstrong came to a halt before the starter’s stand.  Sergeff, looking for two in a row, took the immediate lead with Jonny Boyd, Kyle Jackson, and Brad Cole having a three-way battle for second.  At lap four Sergeff had a three car-length lead over Boyd.  At halfway Boyd pulled alongside Sergeff just as yellow came over the track when Jake Eller came to a stop in turn three.  After green Boyd quickly re-assumed second and then closed the gap on the leader, getting by at the end of eight laps.  Boyd then went on to his fourth win of the season over Sergeff and Brad Cole.  Kyle Jackson wound up fourth with Bill Rabbits fifth.

Next Friday at Raceway 7 will be the giant 40th anniversary celebration with personalities from the Raceway’s early years in attendance, the only appearance of the year of the Super Late Models in a ULMS race, and a giant fireworks display brought to you by Lakeview Ford.
