PITTSBURGH, PA - July 24,2010 - Cranberry Twp. PA's John Flinner
picked up his second win of the season in the first leg of the
Twin 28's UFO/ULMS Penn National Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic
DIRTcar Late Model feature. Jim Stephans and Jared Miley brought
the 24 car field down for the start, with Miley taking the lead
on lap 1, with a battle for the top five positions with Stephans,
Chad McClellan, Steve Baker, Mark Banal and Keith Barbara all
involved. Stephans held second, with Baker and Banal battling
for third. The first caution appeared on lap 2 with McClellan
slowing with a flat. On the restart, Mark Banal looped it in
turns three and four and collected Dave Wade, John Mollick and
Alex Ferree. Miley continued to lead on the restart, with Baker
now in second, with John Flinner moving up from 9th to third,
and Stephans in fourth. On lap 5 Miley's night came to an end
when his throttle stuck and he clobbered the first turn wall,
and was done for the event. Baker was now in the lead with
Flinner in second and Keith Barbara was in third. Baker and
Flinner battled side by side for the next five laps before
Flinner took over on lap 11. Flinner had things well under
control with Baker in second, Barbara in third and Mike Johnson
now in fourth. Flinner and Baker were well out in front as the
race went on, with Johnson all over Barbara for third. On lap 27
Lynn Geisler tagged the wall in turn 2 bringing out the yellow.
So this set up a green/white/checker finish. Flinner and Baker
went at it once again, with Flinner prevailing, winning his
second PPMS main this season and second career UFO race. Mike
Johnson grabbed third, with Alex Ferree coming from 10th to 4th
in the last two laps, with Stephans a solid fifth. Barbara faded
to sixth followed by Mark Banal, Ben Miley, Boom Briggs, and
Brandon Wearing. The heats saw Keith Barbara, John Flinner, and
John Mollick picking up wins with Lynn Geisler winning the
B-Main. Twenty nine cars were on hand.
In the Brougher's Machine Shop Fastrak Pro Late Crates, Mike
Pegher Jr. Wexford PA won his third feature of the season.
Pegher started on the pole, and for 3/4ths of the 20 lap main,
had an easy time of it holding a several car length lead over
second, at first Josh Holtgraver, then after lap 10 Kyle Lukon.
But it seemed at lap 14, Pegher seemed to slow his pace, and
Kyle Lukon, caught and passed him for the lead. The pair then
battled for first for the next three laps, with Pegher back in
front on lap17, and he held it to the end. Holtgraver was third
followed by Justin Lamb, Mike Reft, Laura Lukon, Colton Flinner,
Mark Moats Jr., Scott Schempp, and Dan Karalagas. The heats fell
to Mike Reft and Kyle Lukon. Darrell Dow had a hard crash on lap
9 of the feature, hitting the first turn wall. He was OK, but
the #5J was in bad shape.
Robinson Township PA's Hannah Ramsey won her first ever feature
in the Imperial Heights DIRTcar Young Guns. She beat point
leader Daniel White and Justin Pons (who was driving the Alec
Broniszewski #08). It marked the fourth time in PPMS history
that a female driver has won a feature, the others being Kari
Gasser, Laura Lukon and Sarah Schrum.
During the Miley RV Service UMP Modified feature, the rains hit
with the green flag just being thrown. It will be a complete
restart when the race is resumed. The Modified feature, the
second UFO/ULMS Penn National 28 lap feature, the Sunoco Race
Fuels DIRTcar Cadet feature and the Miley BP Car Wash Hobby
Stocks feature, all will be rescheduled and run at a later date.
Upcoming at PPMS, on July 31 will be a FREE Butler/Armstrong
County night, and DPS Penn night and a complete regular show. On
August 7, TMSA E-Mod Tri-State Challenge, a 25 lap feature for
the E-Mods, plus a complete regular show. Regular shows consist
of the DIRTcar Super Late Models, Fastrak Pro-Lates, DIRTcar
E-Mods, Cadets, Hobby Stocks and Young Guns!
