Danny Holtgraver, Steve Baker, Mike Reft, Pat
Weldon, Daryl Charlier, Brian Huchko and Joe Gombach III won on Mosites
Flight Of The Phoenix Night at Pittsburgh's PA Motor Speedway on July
10, 2010. PITTSBURGH, PA - July 10, 2010 - The Sprints were on hand for the Mosites Flight of the Phoenix, with Pittsburgh PA's Danny Holtgraver winning his first ever PPMS feature. Brandon Spithaler grabbed the lead on the start and led the first lap with 4th starting Holtgraver moving ahead on lap 2. The yellow came out on lap 3 for a spin. On the restart Holtgraver was back out front and pulling away, with Carl Bowser in second and Kevin Schaffer in third. PPMS' all time sprint winner Ed Lynch Jr., began to make his move from his 9th starting spot moving into 3rd by lap 6. By half way, it was Holtgraver, who had a straightaway lead over Bowser and Lynch Jr. The races second yellow appeared on lap 11, and bunched the field up on the restart. Lynch was able to overhaul Bowser for second on the restart and set after Holtgraver. Lynch seemed to be able to close up some ground on Holtgraver when he ran high in turns one and two, and low in turns three and four, but lapped cars began to be a factor and slowed his progress when he ran low. At the checker, it was Holtgraver getting a well deserved win over Lynch Jr., Bowser, Andy McKisson (who recovered from an early spin), Kevin Schaffer, Rod George, Brandon Spithaler, Jack Sodeman Jr., Jeff Taylor, and Brian Steinman. Ed Lynch Jr. and Jack Sodeman Jr. won the heats. Fairmont WV's Steve Baker grabbed his second win of the season and second in a row and 41st career PPMS Late Model victory in the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic DIRTcar Super Late Models. Brandon Burgoon and Ben Miley brought the field down for the green. Burgoon took the lead at the start, with Miley in second and Baker in third. Third starting Baker moved ahead of Miley the following lap and set out after Burgoon. Burgoon maintained a good lead over Baker for the next several laps, until a yellow appeared on lap 6. On the restart Baker overhauled Burgoon and from that point on the race was all Baker's as he pulled away to a straightaway win. Burgoon was second followed by Ben Miley, late arrival John Mollick, Jim Lepro, point leader Mike Johnson, Jason Rider, Tom Bateman, Kyle Lukon and Doug Crawford. The heats saw Brandon Burgoon and Ben Miley take the wins. Last week's release mistakenly had Dave Wade drive the #76 in the story part of the release, when it was Jason Rider driving the car, our apologies. The Brougher's Speed Shop Fastrak Pro Late Model's, had Whitehall PA's Mike Reft pick up his first win of the season. A wild first lap that saw the Crates go five wide coming off turn two at the start saw 6th starting Dennis Niederriter grab the lead. Niederriter led the first six laps before Jeff Broniszewski took over. Broniszewski was looking strong, but 8th starting Reft had other ideas. Reft moved into 3rd on lap 5 and second on lap 8th. Reft moved ahead, on the inside of turns three and four on lap 14 and pulled away for the win. Broniszewski was second for his best run of the season followed by point leader Mark Moats Jr., Niederriter, Keith Barbara (subbing for Justin Lamb in the #93X), Laura Lukon, Darrell Dow, Bryan Hoffman, Scott Schempp and Dusty Curry. The heats fell to Mike Reft and Keith Barbara. Monongahela PA's Pat Weldon drove his sharp new machine to this first win of the season in the Sunoco Race Fuels DIRTcar Cadets. Weldon started 6th and took over the lead on lap 4 from Nick Kocuba and held off four time winner Jake Simmons to pick up the win. Kocuba was third followed by last week's winner Craig Koteles, Steve Webb, Bobby Heim, Bob Schwartzmiller, Joe Koteles, Bob Betz, and Dave Slade. The two heats had Jake Simmons and Joe Koteles grab the wins. Three in a row winner Daryl Charlier Midway PA, made it 4 in a row in the Miley RV Service UMP Modifieds. Charlier took the lead off J.E. Stalder on lap 2 from his 3rd starting spot and held off a strong challenge from J.E. the rest of the race. Kari Gasser was third followed by Carl McKinney, Chris Basich, Jeff Taylor, Vince Laboon, Jonathon Taylor, Willy Briggs and Stush Sadowski. The heats had Kari Gasser and J.E. Stalder pick up the victories. The Miley BP Car Wash DIRTcar Hobby Stocks had McDonald PA's Brian Huchko win his 5th main event of 2010 over last week's winner Ed Wiser and Ricky Steigerwald. Brian Huchko also won the heat. Claridge PA's Joe Gombach III won his third win of the season in the Imperial Heights Garage DIRTcar Young Gun feature. Gombach III won over brother Trevor Gombach, point leader Daniel White, Alec Broniszewski, Hannah Ramsey and Adam Carson. Upcoming at PPMS on July 17, it will be a free OH/WV Night and the Wacky Wheels Triple 8, Twin State Auto Racing Club Free Night, and a complete regular show. And on July 24th the UFO vs ULMS Penn National for the DIRTcar Super Late Models, TWO 28 LAP FEATURES! $2000 to win each plus a complete regular show.
