Eriez Speedway to honor Dick Litz's memory Sunday

Hammett, PA (July 9, 2010) Eriez Speedway will honor Dick Litz Sunday with a $2900 to win, $290 to start feature for the Jay's Auto Wrecking Super Late Models Sunday evening.  Litz was a pioneer in local Late Model racing, driving from the 1950's to his retirement in the early 2000's.  Litz was the oldest driver to ever win a Super Late Model feature on the old Stateline-Eriez circuit, over 60 at the time of his final victory.

Kids will have a special time at Eriez Sunday as well with fun events sponsored by Amanda's Notary.

The on-track action should be intense with battles for supremacy in all six classes.  In the Jay's Auto Wrecking Late Models, the feature class for the night, winless Bump Hedman has a slim 13 point edge over last week's winner Chris Hackett.  Two time winner Mike Knight is 46 points behind Hackett.  A full field of Late Models is expected to be present for this race to honor one of the best from the Erie area in the history of the sport.

Only 14 points separate leader Steve "Kid" Kania from his nearest pursuer in the Boardwalk Bar and Grill Limited Late Model points race.  Second running Wade Slaney has the most wins this season with three to Kania's lone victory.  Third in the standing is Chris Ottaway, who picked up his first win of the season last Sunday night.

Dave Hess Jr lost the lead last week on the final lap of the Plyler Overhead Door E-Mod JoAnn Clinger Memorial but retains his point lead over Scott Gurdak and Mike Knight.  Hess has a comfortable 83-point advantage over Gurdak with another 20 points back to Knight.

Ben Burgess Jr has dominated the Hunter Trucking Sportsman class this season, winning five of the six features contested.  As a result he has a 105-point lead over John Boardman, who in turn is 136 points ahead of Wade Watson.

Chris Withers, with four wins, leads Tommy Fox Collision Street Stock standings and Greg Fenno trails Fox by 26 points.  These three have been close all season even though Withers has the lion's share of wins.  Nearly every race has been a shootout among these three with one night seeing the trio come across the finish line side-by-side-by-side!  Withers has a substantial lead in the points but that could change rapidly if Fenno and Fox continue to run as well.

Jamie Hebner has a 115 point edge over his brother Josh in the Summit Auto Auction Super Challengers but Josh leads in the win column, having scored three wins to Jamie's two.  The two have dominated the season with only Jimmy Diablo being the only driver not named Hebner able to crack the winner's circle.  Third-running Jeff Nunemaker is a whopping 353 points behind Josh in third.

Eriez Speedway is located on Sampson Road, just off Lake Pleasant Road in the town of Hammet, PA, 3 miles south of Interstate 90.  Take Route 8 South from Interstate 90 Exit 29 and follow the signs starting in Hammett.  Admission for this special racing weekend is $13.00 for Adults, $10 for seniors, children 6 - 15 $6, under 6 free.  Special events (Sprints and World of Outlaws Late Models) are more.
