ASA Late Model Series Keeps Stock Car Tradition Alive at Milwaukee Mile By: Devon Holder July 7, 2010 Auto racing at the Milwaukee Mile in West Allis, Wisconsin has been happening for over a century. The first auto race took place at the famed one mile oval a full eight years before the first Indianapolis 500, making the Milwaukee Mile the oldest continually operating motor speedway in the country. While NASCAR opted to pull their Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series events from the Wisconsin State Fair Park venue, Ron Varney has picked up the slack, bringing in the ASA Late Model Series to stage stock car auto racing at the Milwaukee Mile in 2010. The ASA Late Model Series will invade the Milwaukee Mile on July 16th and 17th for the Milwaukee 100. This event is expected to draw a large field of cars as drivers look forward to their chance to run at the legendary one mile oval. The ASA Late Model Series, ‘America’s Premier Short Track Series’ expects to have legendary names in the field at Milwaukee. Campbell, Hoffman, and Pyle are a few of the names that fans can expect to see during the event on July 17th at the flat one mile oval along with Wisconsin native, Rebecca Kasten. Jordan Sims, who is competing for the ASA Late Model Series North Division Championship for Lorz Motorsports, competed at the Milwaukee Mile in 2008. Sims day was short lived however, as his engine let go 13 laps into the event. With another chance to run at the legendary track this July, Sims looks to have better luck. “I am really excited that we are going to the Milwaukee Mile this year,” states the Sudbury, Ontario driver. “Knowing that we are the only stock car series racing there this year shows how hard Ron Varney worked to get us a race there.” Although Sims is tucked away in Northern Ontario, Canada, he appreciates the history of the Milwaukee Mile. “It’s such a historic track and it’s awesome to race on. I can’t wait to get there and go for the win,” continued Sims. “It’s cool to be racing at the fairgrounds, which are in the middle of the city of Milwaukee. There are not too many places you can go race and your right in the middle of a city as big as Milwaukee.” To find out more information about the Milwaukee Mile, be sure to visit www.milwaukeemile.com.
