AUGUST BUSY MONTH FOR ULMS RACING
SERIES
August is the dog days of summer, but for the ULMS Racing Series it will
be a busy month, at least the first sixteen days. The Northern Tier Inc.
ULMS Late Models will be the busy series, as they will have six events
at five different tracks in New York and Pennsylvania. The Kinzua Water
Service Emods will be back in action also
It all starts on Saturday, August 1 at Woodhull Raceway in Woodhull, New
York for the 18th Annual Late Model Reunion that will pay
$2000 to win for the Northern Tier Inc ULMS Late Model teams. Defending
ULMS champion and race winner, Todd Andrews has retired, so there will
be a new winner in Allen's Wine and Liquor Victory Lane. Current point
leader, Bob Close will lead the contingent to the high banks of
Woodhull. Past winners, Al Brewer, Ed Carley, Jeff Hoffman and Bob "The
Bird" Baldwin who will make a rare start out of retirement, will join
Close.
The Northern Tier Inc. ULMS Late Models will then head to McKean County
Raceway on Thursday, August 6th for "Thursday Night Thunder" for the 5th
Annual Stephanie Eckl Memorial that will pay $2000 to win and also be a
"qualifier" for the MCR's season ending $12,00 to win Fall Classic.
Gregg Satterlee has won two of the three ULMS events at MCR this year
and he no doubt will be back for the Eckl Memorial along with the Dave
Hess Jr., Mike Blose, Close, Brent Rhebergen and others.
Sunday, August 9th, the Northern Tier Inc. ULMS Late Models
roll down into Franklin, Pennsylvania for their third and final visit of
the year at H&H Motorsports, Tri City Speedway. It will be a 30 lap,
$3000 to win World of Outlaw late model qualifier. The winner will go
home with $3000 and be a guaranteed starter for the Labor Day Oil City
Classic events. This will be the rubber match between Rob Blair and Boom
Briggs as both have ULMS victories at Tri City this year and both have
finished second to each other as well. Jared Miley has seemed to be the
fastest car at both ULMS events at Tri City but poor redraw pills have
kept him from victory lane so far. He no doubt will be looking to snap
his pair of third place finishes he has had.
The following weekend, the Northern Tier Inc. ULMS Late Models head for
three events in two days in two states on two completely different types
of tracks. First on Friday, August 14 the ULMS late model teams will
make their second and encore visit of the year to Arcade International
Raceway after a very successful event in May. Jason Dupont picked up his
first ever dirt late model feature victory on the tight 1/3 mile oval.
Dupont will no doubt be back and looking to grab victory number two.
Some of the committed drivers so far to this event are point leader, Bob
Close, Brent Rhebergen, Darrell Bossard, Dick Barton, Bump Hedman and Al
Brewer who was the Emod point leader at AIR till his Emod season ended
with his car doing several cart wheeling flips down the front stretch.
How sweet would it be if Brewer, who was the dominating Emod at AIR come
back and win in his late model?
The very next night, the Northern Tier Inc. ULMS late models makes their
first ever appearance to the "Monster Half Mile" otherwise known as
Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Motor Speedway for the F2 Shockwave as part of
the triple sanction event that will feature the UFO Race Championship
Series and the UMP DirtCar Series. This event will feature Twin 31 lap
events paying $2500 each to win. Currently, Al Atallah of Bridgeville
Pennsylvania leads the UFO series points over Brandon Burgoon and Keith
Barbara. ULMS will be led by Close, Rhebergen, Dupont and Dave Hess.
This event is an open tire event and will follow the UFO race procedures
and rules. UFO Spec Motor cars will be using option 2 rules. Option 2
spec rules require 2,250 minimum weight, 12" spoiler and no nose
spillboard. All other open motor entries, including ULMS entrants will
weigh 2,250 pounds as well. A star-studded field of some of the best
regional drivers should be on hand for this event.
The ULMS Racing Series ends the August onslaught of events the very next
night when the Kinzua Water Service Emods finally get their second half
of their season going when they visit Bobby Rohrer's Eriez Speedway for
the second time. After a very successful 42 car field in May, the Kinzua
Water Service United Emod Series was invited back for another $1000 to
win event. Brent Rhebergen captured the event in May. Defending series
champion and current point leader, Randy Hall will no doubt be one of
the cars to beat along with, Russ Dunn, Greg Johnson, Dave Hess, Justin
Carlson, Jack Young, Rich Gardner and others.
The ULMS Racing Series will then take the remainder of August off,
pending any additions to the schedule and will gear up for a very busy
month of September when the ULMS Racing Series racers hit the "month of
money" with multiple end of year specials at tracks throughout the tri
state region.
