Justin Carlson Wins Dan Moore’s Corry
Chrysler E-Mod Special,
at Stateline Speedway
Busti, NY: After rain for a week the skies cleared for the Dan Moore’s Corry Chrysler and Budweiser Night at Stateline Speedway. Rod Maloy took home the $1,000 first place money in the Super Late Model King of the Hill besting Greg Oakes in the final round. Kyle Bradigan took control of the Spectator feature with six laps remaining and cruised to victory his second of the season. Scott Gurdak led nearly the entire Super Late Model feature for back to back wins. Race leader Brent Rhebergen suffered mechanical problems with two laps remaining in the E-Mod Special setting up Justin Carlson for his third win of the season. With five laps remaining point leader John Boardman passed Bob Hazzard for his seventh Super Sportsman win of the season. Glen Slaney led from green to checkers for his second win of the season in the Outlaw Cadet feature. Tawny Crocker came from seventh to get her first win in the Lady Challenger feature. Joshua Beckstrom won the first Super Challenger feature his second win of 2009. Randy Beckstrom won his first in the second Super Challenger feature. John Mease and Matt Harvey brought the Spectators out for their feature event. Berton Chapel and Chad Schauers were in row two. Harvey led lap one but the yellow flew for Chuck Rugg stopped against the fence in the exit of turn four. Harvey, Schauers, Mease and Jermin Stickland were the leaders. Aaron Dascomb lost a drive shaft on the restart for yellow number two. Lap two was completed then the third yellow. Kevin Hill and Mease were involved. Lap four saw caution four as Damon Lewis tangled with Brian Wilson. Harvey remained the race leader with Kyle Bradigan second and Stan Davie Jr. third. A lap seven spin by Schauers cause caution five. Brandon Groters moved into the top five, from his 26th starting spot, on the restart and Bradigan became the new leader. Just two more laps were completed before caution eight this time for Skip Joslyn. Bradigan, Harvey, Davis, Kevin Golden and Groters were the top five for the restart, just six laps remained. Rookie Damian Bidwell stopped during the restart and was towed to the infield. The final yellow of the event occurred with two laps remaining. The top five remained the same. The restart was waived off by starter Mark Matthews. Bradigan won going away for his second win of the season. Scott Gurdak and Matt Urban were row one for the Super Late Model feature. Chad Valone and Ed Carley were in row two. Urban led the first lap then the yellow flew for Rich Gardner stopped in turn four. Gurdak led the second lap as Urban slipped to second with Valone third and Greg Oakes fourth. King of the Hill winner Rod Maloy was fifth. Oakes stopped in four with nine laps complete for the second caution. Maloy was lined up fourth for the restart with Andy Boozel fifth and Carley sixth. Gurdak was able to move away from the field and with ten laps to go led by fifteen car lengths. Urban and Valone continued to contest the runners up spot and Maloy help Boozel at bay. A spin by Dick Barton with four laps remaining allowed the field to close with Gurdak. The top five remained the same with Chris Hackett sixth, Dutch Davies seventh, John Lobb eighth, Dennis Lunger ninth and Ron Davies tenth. Chad Ruhlman had troubles on the restart for caution four. Over the final laps no one could catch Gurdak. It was Gurdak’s second win of the season. Rich Michael Jr. was the early E-Mod leader with Dan Davies second, Randy Hall third and Brent Rhebergen fourth. Point leader Justin Carlson was fifth. The race remained green and Michaels caught the rear of the file just at the yellow flew for Andy Loomis. Five laps were complete for the twenty-eight car field. Rhebergen passed Hall for third on the restart as did Carlson one lap later. Dave Lyon took fifth and Hall retired from the race. Michael caught the rear of the field once again on lap fifteen, then a lap sixteen caution allowed the field to catch up. John Kelsey and Alex Froman tangled on the restart for caution three and Kelsey had more trouble on the next restart for caution four. Caution five followed on the next restart. Michael lost the handle on the restart bringing out the caution and ending his bid for the win. Rhebergen, Carlson, Lyon, Davies and Couchenour were the leaders. Rhebergen slowed pulling into the infield with two laps to go putting Carlson on the point for the final two circuits and the win. Bob Hazzard won the dash to turn one of the Super Sportsman feature and became the early leader. Joe Buccola and Dan Francis brought out the first caution with four laps complete. Ron Burgun caused caution two one lap later. Point leader John Boardman was right on Hazzard’s rear bumper after the restart and on lap eleven Boardman passed Hazzard on the back stretch for the lead. Boardman cruised to victory lane his seventh of the season. A multi-car incident brought out the yellow before the first lap of the Outlaw Cadet feature could be completed. Chad Carlson, Rodney Thoms, Brian Larson and Brad Strickland were involved. Glen Slaney led after the restart with Mike Moore second and Chris Ottaway third. Larson spun for caution two on lap three. Caution four occurred after lap four. Slaney was out in front by three car lengths with five laps remaining. Moore continued to dog Slaney but was unable to close. Lap traffic became a factor with two laps to go but Slaney was able to thread through for his second win of the season.
