Fulton Loves the Bikers; Motorcycle Appreciation Night This Saturday Along With Great Race Action!

By Dave Medler

Fulton, NY - Mother Nature smiled on the Fulton Speedway last Saturday Night. With rain all over Central New York not a drop fell at the Speedway and the racing action was completed in rapid fashion. This Saturday Night July 26th it will be Motorcycle Appreciation Night. Anyone with a Motorcycle will get half off the General Admission Grandstand price. To add to the admission price you will be able to bring your Motorcycle inside the gates and park behind the grandstand area.

Saturday night will have a full night of high speed action featuring the DIRTcar Modifieds, DIRTcar Crate Sportsman Modifieds, UMP Street Stocks, E&V Energy Novice Crate Sportsman Modifieds and Four Cylinder Enduro.
There has seemed to be some confusion lately in the E&V Energy division and the name. "The true meaning of the class is to give new drivers time on the speedway till they are comfortable to move up," Said Art Halliday. "We don't want to force anyone to move up and cause crashes and not only wreck their own equipment but other drivers in the regular Sportsman class." Halliday finished up by saying it was meant to be a learning Division and WHF Racing doesn't want drivers to make it their home, the Speedway will be monitoring drivers progress. To clear up any confusion about the Division intent it will now be the E&V Energy Novice Crate Sportsman Modifieds

Last Saturday night in the Modifieds was a race fans will be talking about for sometime to come. Jim Witko, Dale Planck and Ryan Phelps had a Battle Royal running nose to tail and side by side, even going three wide through the turns while racing through lapped traffic. When the checkers flew Planck grabbed the win followed by Witko and Phelps.

Looking at the points race the Modifieds it should go down to the last paying points night to decide the 2008 Track Champion. Tom Sears Jr still holds on to the point lead by a slim five point margin over Alan Johnson, Ryan Phelps is only six markers behind. Defending Track Champion Jimmy Phelps is only fourteen behind and Jim Witko eighteen back and still in the hunt.

Jeremy Pitcher finally found Victory lane last Saturday in the DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds, with the win he increased his point lead towards back to back Championships. After his win Pitcher related, " "I had forgotten what it feels like," a trip to victory lane. "What a super car, the track was really good. I found my way to the front really quick. I don't know who was behind me or how close they were, I don't know if they were on me or what. The car was so good I didn't even have to work it that hard." Pitcher finished up by saying they want to win the Championship and defend their title, there is still nothing better than winning.

The Sportsman Modifieds are no doubt one of the toughest divisions at Fulton, to date there has been seven different Feature Winners.

Ron Hawker did last Saturday what hasn't been done lately in the UMP Street Stocks, defeat Dave Mannise. For Hawker it was his second win of the season. Mannise still holds the point lead with his seven wins.
One of the most popular wins this year at Fulton came last Saturday night in the E&V Energy Novice Crate Sportsman Modifieds. Katelyn Kane the points leader grabbed the lead on Lap-4 and from there was never headed for her first ever win. Kane became the first female race winner at Fulton since the 1999 season. The 17 year old till last season had never driven any kind of race car.

Once Kane exited her Ernie Kreis Heating Company, No.2k it was an emotional Victory Lane. Kane had already won the biggest battle of her life, childhood cancer. When asked what went through her mind over the last 12-Laps, "Just hit my marks, the car was tight in one and two but I got it. I've grown up around it (racing) my whole life," Her Grandfather used to own Mitch Gibbs Car."I always dreamed of having a car, then after a long battle with cancer I finally got it."

You never know who will show up in the E&V Energy Novice Crate Modifieds as 25-drivers have taken laps so far this season.

Saturday night Gates open at 5:00 with racing starting at 7:00. Admission prices are - Adults 15 and over - $12, Children 10 to 14- $5 and Children 9 and under - Free.
