Earl Halaquist Memorial for the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints at Fonda Speedway on Tuesday, August 5th

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Back on May 31, Mother Nature had other ideas for the 5th annual Earl Halaquist Memorial which was to be held at the famed Fonda Speedway.  While she won the battle, the fans will win the war on a special Tuesday night, August 5th.  The 25th Anniversary Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints (ESS) will share in the card along with the Go Green NMX Mix Thunder Series for the big block modifieds.

With the Memorial event paying $2,000 to the winner and this being the second leg of the GSSI I-90 Challenge where a cool $1,000 in point fund money will be handed out, big field of winged sprints will be on hand.  Also, the mods will be going 60 laps, for $6,000 to win, this could possibly be the biggest show of the year at the half-mile known as the “Track of Champions”.  But, the excitement doesn’t stop there!  The twice rained out 360 sprint car A-Main will also be held after all the ESS events along with a special dirt sportsman open.

Many family members and friends of the Sidney, N.Y. sprint car hall of fame inductee will be on hand on this special night. The former United Racing Company champion was well liked with a big history following him to his home of the Empire State.

Going into this night, Jason Barney leads the GSSI points followed by Lance Yonge, Jeff Cook, Dan Kaszubinski and Justin Barger.  Only Kaszubinski’s status will be uncertain, but the rest will be in the pits along with current ESS point leader Steve Poirier, Alain Bergeron, Michael Parent, Tim Kelly, Brian McDonald, Lee Ladouceur, Jeff VanDusen, Anthony Cain, Jami Russell and many, many more.

Sprint teams should note that this event was a complete rain out on the 31st and the open draw format will be in effect.  With this comes added excitement of outsiders such as Brian Seidel, Jared Zimbardi, Adam Gordon, John Karklin Jr. and others looking to make the midweek outing.

Gabriel’s IGA Market will back the Walt’s Hobby Dash Series event and along with the Car Mate Custom Built Trailers heats and the KSE Racing Products B-Main, fans will see a night full of sprint car action.

The Earl Halaquist Memorial, the Fonda Speedway and the GSSI I-90 Challenge all brought to you by Lucas Oil.  A total of 25 years with the tradition of excitement guaranteed!
