Kwik Fill / Red Apple Night at the Races A Huge
Success for Lake Erie Speedway
Erie, PA (July 7, 2007) – The Kwik Fill / Red Apple Night at the Races brought a huge crowd of 6,869 people who piled into the Lake Erie Speedway. Fans came to see some great racing and an extended fireworks display. The competition was great tonight, as 93 competitors racing for 6 divisions were in the pits. The night started off with the Advance Auto Parts Street Stocks, which was won by Eric Hadley in the #71. This marks Hadley’s 3rd win this season at Lake Erie Speedway in the Street Stocks. The sportmod of Dale Murdoch started on the pole and held the lead for the entire race, all the way until lap 19, when Hadley finally made his way to the front from the 10th starting position. The Boyer RV Bandolero race featured a new driver this year, that being the #42 of Nathan Rodgers. Rodgers, who started on the pole for the race, easily held off 3-time winner Nathan Carlson for the win. Rodgers normally races at tracks in the Carolina’s, as he is trying to run for the national championship for Bandoleros. Justin Hines continues his dominance here at LES, taking home his 4th win of the season. Hines, a native of Erie, PA has become a crowd favorite, capturing the hearts of the fans with his self named "Spiderman" act, where he climbs the fence after every win here at the speedway. The Dodge Truck/Sportsman feature showcased another first time competitor winning his first race at Lake Erie Speedway. The #7 sportsman of Joe Coursen from Painesville, OH won tonight, in his first ever feature race at Lake Erie Speedway. Coursen was unbeatable for the entire race, as he started on the pole and led every lap. The only competition for Coursen was the #07 of Nick Crassi Jr. who would try to get around Coursen on the restarts, but couldn’t quite get it done. The Jensen’s Target Collision Krazy Kompact Feature showcased another runaway winner, as the #20 of Bob Belson also led the entire race. Belson, who started 2nd, took the lead coming out of the first turn and was never challenged for the race. There was a big incident however, as numerous cars hit the foam barriers that are in place near the pit road entrance coming out of turn 2. Meanwhile, Belson gets to celebrate his 2nd victory here at Lake Erie Speedway in 2007. Closing out the show, the Plyler Overhead Door Late Models brought 28 cars for competition, another strong field for the top class here at LES. The race battle for the first half of the race took place between Jimmy Weller and Mike Hennessy, with Weller leading the first 20 laps of the race. There were numerous spins during the race, but drivers were able to get pointed in the right direction and return to racing without a caution coming out. One incident did red flag the race however, as the #33 of Jake Francis, and the #99TJ of T.J. Johnson hit in turns 3 and 4, sending Johnson into the frontstretch wall hard, and collecting the #23R of Mike Reed in the process. Both drivers were okay, but the track workers had to spend some time cleaning up the incident. The #32 of Glenn Gault Jr. was able to get by Weller on lap 21, and never looked back, claiming his 2nd feature victory at LES in 2007. Before this race Glenn Gault Jr. was ranked 168th in the nation according to the top 500 points of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, and 10th for the Top 10 in Pennsylvania. Gault’s 2nd feature win will certainly help him gain some positions towards the state and national championships for the All-American Series.
