The Midgets of the American Race Drivers Club (ARDC) headed west to Mercer Raceway Park for a twin feature show on July 23.  The first 25 lap feature was run with the midgets in a wingless configuration.  Then teams strapped on the wings to run the second feature race.  Mercer's sprint division also ran minus the wings on this exciting night of racing.  Tim Baker files the following photos.

Rob Eyler drifted over the lip of the track in turn three and tossed up quite a cloud of dust before coming to a stop.

The front suspension on Andy Priest's sprinter fails, sending his racer into a bucking mode and ending his heat race.

Rob Eyler has more trouble in the heats as he gets into the back of Charlie Holben (42)...

and lifts the front wheels high in the air!

Doug Stanley (#18) moves inside Scott Bonnell (#3) on his way to his first career win.  It happened at Mercer in Stanley's first wingless sprint race!

Mike Miller (#3) tries the inside of Dave Shirk (#2) while Steve Buckwalter (#5) goes to the outside.

Michele Miller battles Ray Bull in the wingless ARDC feature.  Both would retire from the event due to mechanical trouble.

Andy Martin (#21) leads one of the Miller Racing midgets at Mercer Raceway Park.

Steve Buckwalter (#5) makes the winning pass on Michele Miller (#4) during the first (wingless) feature at Mercer.

Andy Martin (#21) drives to the inside of Scott Zipp (#99) in winged ARDC midget action.

Jeff Schell (#75) and Dave Shirk (#2) run wheel to wheel in the winged feature.

Mike Miller drove daughter Tracy's winged midget to the win in the second feature at Mercer Raceway Park.

The 358-Modified feature began with a big crack-up in turn four.  Involved were Lonnie Riggs (#58), Ron Eperthener Jr. (#333), Jeff Stuchel (#12), and Richard Whitney (#19W).

Another view shows the #55 of Scott Kay and the #359 of Leonard Baker Jr. in the mess as well.

Back at it in turn four are Baker (no relation!) and Kay.

Mike Stine goes around the colorful M&M mod of Frank Guidace on his way to the front of the pack.

Stine battles Lonnie Riggs as the feature continued.

Gary Smoker raced valiantly with Stine, but the #7S ended his night in the winner's circle at Mercer.

Garrett Krummert's modified shows some significant damage, but continued running to the finish.
