Scott Fuller Wins the Street Stock Shootout as South Arcade Speedway
Closes Out the Season and Crowns the 2011 Track Champions
by Charlie Langlois
August 27, 2011 –
Delevan, NY
The first annual
Schwab Aggregates Street Stock Shootout closed out the South Arcade
Speedway season in dramatic fashion as Scott Fuller captured the
$500 prize on Saturday August 27. Other winners on Championship
night were Josh Pangrazio in the Pangrazio Mac Tools E-Mods, Nick
Snayczuk in the D & H Mini Horse Pull Team Mini Stocks and Zach
Hamer in the Arcade Tractor Supply Company Pure Stocks. Davey Lowe
captured the Lauterborn Electric Enduro.
Track championships
were also decided as Josh Wilcox captured the title in the Schwab
Aggregates Street Stocks by one point over Andy Michael. Other
champions crowned included Vic Vena in the Pangrazio Mac Tools
E-Mods, Steve Mowery in the D & H Mini Horse Pull Team Mini Stocks
and Curt Pastorius in the Arcade Tractor Supply Company Pure Stocks.
The Street Stock
Shootout presented itself as a double edge sword as not only was the
biggest payday of the year on the line but the tightest championship
battle in track history found Andy Michael with a two point lead
over Josh Wilcox to begin the night.
Michael captured
his heat and Wilcox finished second in his qualifier so Michael
began the Street Stock Shootout with a three point lead. He also
picked the pole in the redraw while Wilcox drew the number six pill.
At the drop of the
green of the Street Stock Shootout, Michael jumped to the lead
followed by Ted Mascho, Dan Giboo, Nate Arnold and Randy Taylor.
Mascho and Giboo were all over Michael and after a few early race
cautions, Giboo found the bottom of the racetrack to his liking and
passed both to take the top spot on lap 6. Each caution found Wilcox
to the pits to replace tires and repair damage to his machine. He
would restart in the rear.
Giboo’s head of the
pack run was short lived as he spun on lap 8 to bring out the
caution. Again, Wilcox was pitside.
On the restart,
Michael led Scott Fuller and Mascho but the man on the move was
Chris Austin who charged into second on lap 9. Michael and Austin
proceeded to put on a tremendous battle for the lead as Austin
pulled alongside each lap.
Halfway in the 25
lap feature showed Michael, Austin, Scott Fuller, Levi Watson and
Mascho your top five. Wilcox had still not cracked the top ten. The
caution flew on lap 15 as Watson spun. Wilcox and Andy Eastman also
spun to avoid the stalled machine. Wilcox
again joined the back of the pack.
Michael and Austin
continued their crowd pleasing duel as green reappeared. Wilcox
motored through the field and began to pick off cars each lap as
Michael held off Austin.
The complexion of
the race changed on lap 22. Into turn three with three laps to go,
Michael and Austin came together. Michael went around and Austin
spun into the turn four pit opening. Austin was ok but was through
for the night. Now it was Michael who would go to the rear of the
field. Scott Fuller assumed command with Wilcox fifth and Michael
outside the top ten for the restart.
Green was back out
as Mascho put the pressure on Fuller and Michael sliced his way
through the field. The white flag indicated Mascho had one more shot
at Fuller as Wilcox was able to displace Steve Mowery for fourth and
Michael was eighth.
Fuller of Little
Genesee was able to hold off Masco for the $500 to win payday.
Michael gained two more spots on the last lap to finish sixth but
fell one point shy of Wilcox who finished fourth.
“The only shot I
would have had (at Michael and Austin) would have been the last lap.
I want to thank all of the people who got me here,” stated Fuller in
victory lane. Mascho,
Watson, Wilcox and Giboo completed the top five. Post race found
Watson disqualified which moved everyone up one position and
elevated Wilcox to third, Giboo fourth and Michael fifth. Michael
garnered the majority of the lap money as he led the most circuits.
It was an intense
duel that highlighted the Pangrazio Mac Tools E-Mods feature as Josh
Pangrazio and Vic Vena traded the top spot early. As the front pair
raced hard, Mike Eschrich and Darren Tarabori waged war for third.
Pangrazio and Vena
were glued together the entire distance and Pangrazio was able to
hold off leading feature event winner and track champion Vena to
record his first win of the year.
“It was close a
couple of times there,” the Oakfield resident stated. Vena,
Eschrich, Tarabori and Carl Ballinger rounded out the top five.
Nick Snayczuk
grabbed the top spot at the start of the D & H Mini Horse Pull Team
Mini Stocks and was able to thwart the advances of Kyle Babcock.
Brad Ullman sat third while Steve Mowery kept point rival Riley
Ellison in his sights in a battle for fourth.
Ullman got second
from Babcock on lap 12 but Snayczuk of West Valley was able to hold
off Ullman for win number two on the season. “Brad’s (Ullman) a good
runner and so is Babcock, they always run me clean, I want to thank
my dad for everything,” he said. Ullman, Babcock, Ellison and Mowery
were your top five and Mowery took the championship.
Zach Hamer and Curt
Pastorius had the crowd on the edge of their seats all race long in
the Arcade Tractor Supply Company Pure Stock feature with Hamer able
to get through lapped traffic unscathed to take down his second win
in a row.
“My throttle kept
sticking, I wasn’t sure I was going to make it,” Hamer of Belfast
said. Pastorius settled for second and took the championship while
Butch Jackson, James Brown and Rod Winans were third through fifth.
