Henry Rides Flat Tire To Victory Lane; Sever Wins Street Stock Special after Pit Stop

(Smithton, PA)  Bobby Henry maintained his Championship Standings lead by winning his sixth NASCAR Subway Late Model feature of the season on August 26, 2011.  Matt Sever won the biggest event of the year for Street Stocks and Adam Kostelnik won his Modified feature of the season.  Ed McConnell (Chargers ) and Cody Quarrick (Coca Cola Super Compacts) also returned to victory lane.

As the NASCAR Subway Late Model feature began, Dan Lewis grabbed the lead.  On lap three, fifth place starter Barry Awtey roared to the front.  Awtey was tied with Bobby Henry in the points chase as the green flag waved for the 50-lap feature.  On lap six, Garry Wiltrout took the lead and remained out front until lap 26.  Henry, Wiltrout s teammate, then made a bold inside lane pass for the lead.  Henry  s lead dwindled late in the event, as his left front tire went flat, within the last five laps.  In a shower of sparks Henry held on to win his sixth feature of the season; the 125th victory of his career.  Wiltrout finished a close second with title contender and six time winner Awtey third.  John Komarinski finished fourth after a battle with Matt Gardner who finished fifth.  Wiltrout and Mark Poole won the heat races.

Front row starter Bill Hribar led two laps of the 25-lap Modified feature.  On lap three, six-time Champion Adam Kostelnik took the lead.  After leading laps in several features earlier in the season only to fall victim to mechanical failures and crashes, Kostelnik reached victory lane for the first time in 2011.  Dedicating the win to his recovering car owner Howie Balis, Kostelnik defeated the leading winner of the season, Bryan Shipp. Shipp stole the second position on the last lap in heavy traffic from defending Champion Chris Brink.  Brink, last week s winner placed third ahead of Jason Busch and Hribar.  Bobby and Bryan Shipp were the heat winners.

In the biggest Street Stock race of the year, Aaron Minjock led the first two of 35 laps.  Points leader Shawn Phillips took the point position on lap three, and sixth place starter Matt Sever advanced to third place.  Sever took second position on lap six and was forced to pit with a flat right rear tire on lap eight.  Amazingly, Sever kept his car off the wall, and restarted at the tail of the field for the restart.  Remarkably, on lap 21, Sever managed to overtake Phillips for the lead after passing every car on the track  some twice!  At the finish, behind Sever Scott Aiello took second place, Phillips finished third, and Jonathan Hileman and Andrew Kostelnik completed the top five.  Sever and Aiello won the heats.
After starting on the pole for the 15-lap Charger feature, Ed McConnell dominated the event for his fourth win of 2011.  At times he was challenged by Kristen Etling, but the Evans City driver steered to another win to maintain his spot in the top three of the championship standings.  Behind McConnell and second place finisher Etling when the checkered flag waved were previous week s winner Anthony Aiello, defending Champion Zane Ferrell, and points leader Denny Keller.  McConnell, Aiello, and Ferrell won the heats.

Cod y Quarrick is the points leader in the Coca Cola Super Compacts and added another trophy to his division leading total after a hard-fought battle with Paul Koffler, III.  Koffler led more laps, many of which were side-by-side with Quarrick.  They finished first and second as they remain in the championship battle.  When the checkered flag waved, the top five finishers were Quarrick, Koffler, previous week s winner Scott Ahlborn, Steve Long, and Steve Settle.  Heat winners were Kyle Komarinski, Quarrick, and Koffler.
