MIKE LONAS HAMMERS NUMBER
THREE AT THE NEW LAKEVILLE SPEEDWAY
(Lakeville,Ohio-08/01/08
Mike Lonas's trophy case continues to bulge at the seams as
he continues to record feature wins at the New Lakeville
Speedway. He lined up on the outside of the front row for the
main event with Eric Eicholtz on the highside.Benny Lester and
Rick Bond was the second row starters. At the drop of the
green,Lonas took his Smittley Towing entry to the front and
stayed at the point for the entire event with Eicholtz moving in
on the leader back bumper after a couple of yellow flags. On both
those restarts,Eicholtz would look to the bottom side of the
track and get a right front fender up to the left rear quarter
panel of Lonas, but could not make the pass.Late in the
race,Lonas checked out on the field and won by a large
margin.Bond and Lester battled side by side as J.R. Gentry
dashed from starting eighth to join the top five.Lonas was the
first to the finish with Eicholtz second,Bond third,Lester
fourth and Gentry finishing fifth.Heat wins went to Jason Flory
and Ryan Eddleblute.
Kirt Jefferies won his first feature event in the winged
sprint A main.Starting from the outside of the front row,he put
the hammer down but was slowed by the first caution for the spin
of Cody Jacobs on lap number one. That moved points leader
Nick Mulheim up to the back bumper of the leader on the restart
with Aaron Shaffer and John Ivy in tow.Mulheim stayed close for
the next few laps as the second caution flag was out for a flat
tire on the Chad Levingston sprinter. On the restart Tim Hunter
was moving from his eighth starting spot to become a player in
the event.Hunter moved into fourth place and began his chase to
the finish.Yet another yellow flag was displayed anf Jefferies
held total control of the event on the restart as Mulheim made
his final attempt to gather in the leader. With two laps to
go,Mulheim did a three sixty spin without causing a caution but
lost a position to Hunter. Two odd events happened after the
checkered flag was waved. One being Jefferies lost his left rear
wheel on the cool down lap and Hunter was charged with a jump
start violation and was moved back to a fourth place finish
while Jefferies had his MOM Motorsports sprinter towed to the
winners circle.Mulheim was rewarded with a second place finish
which will keep him atop the points battle while Shaffer took
third,Hunter fourth and Ivy getting fifth.Jason Dolick and
Hunter took the two heat wins.
Billy Goerz had won three time earlier in the season and
had earned the pole starting spot in the Hamlin Racing Engines
sponsored Pure Stock A Main with Paul McVicker lined up on the
ouside of the front row.As soon as the green was out,Bob
Daugherty moved into the second spot behind leader Goerz. On the
fourth lap coming off turn four,Goerz and Daugherty made contact
and both were sent to the tail of the field thus putting
McVicker in the lead with Dave Haven Jr in second.Eighth placed
starter Travis Mensching had been moving forward in the field
and on lap five moved into the third spot.Don Baney had started
deep in the line up in tenth spot and by lap seven was shown in
fourth with Haven Jr and Donna Canode. On the twelth lap
Mensching made the pass on McVicker after a great side by side
battle. On the following lap,Haven Jr replaced McVicker in the
runner up spot.Mensching went on to win in his Keener Oil,D&C
Escavating sponored entry.Haven held onto second with McVicker
third,Baney fourth and Canode fifth. The two earlier heat wins
were won by Goerz and Daugherty.
Justin Brown drove to his first win of the year in the Mini
Stock feature after starting in the third spot.Sean Rush dashed
to a sizable lead for the first fourteen laps with Brown being
the chaser.Points leader Jordan James came from eighth place to
being shown in fifth spot after two laps were recorded which set
up a tremedous race with Dustin Cyrus and Kyle Moore.Roger Rush
Sr and Josh Hershberger put on a great display of competition. On
the final lap,Sean Rush slowed as did Kyle Moore and Brown went
to the winners circle with Jordan james in second,Cyrus was
third,Rush Sr took fourth and Hershberger was fifth. The three
heat winners were Brown,Jordan James and Moore. The B main was
won by Mike Snyder.
Brad Lawhorn borrowed a ride for the night and drove it to
his first podium finish of the year in the Mini Stock Novice
main event. He started on the outside of the front row as Cory
Hornikel made the chase very close at times.Kevin Wright was
able to get another top five finaish as he was third with Steve
foley fourth and Dustin Daugherty rounding out the top five
spots.Hornikel and Daugherty took the heat wins.
John Mager made his third visit to the speedway a good one
by winning in the Classic Cruiser finale.Royle Mast gave it his
all as those two ran very close for the entire event.Past track
champion Mason Radcliff drove to a third place finish with Bob
Fry getting fourth and Ken Yarrosh finishing fifth.Fry and
Yarosh took the prelim events.
Brandon Craver hooked his fourth feature win this year in
the Mini Truck division. He finished ahead of Billy Kutz,Dave
Caskey,Travis Leyda and Gale Wallace.Craver and Kutz won the
heats.
